Syllabus
Physical fitness and athletic skills will be taught throughout the year. A variety of cardiovascular, muscular strength, muscular endurance, and flexibility exercises will be explored to give my students a working knowledge that they can use as skills for a lifetime of health, fitness, and well being. We will also use a variety of different sports to learn the fundamentals needed to participate in these sports.

What are the components of skill related fitness?
Know correct techniques and methods of stretching.
What is FITT? (Frequency, Intensity, Time, and Type)
What are influences on physical activity? (i.e. school, family, peers, built environment)
How can intensity be measured when it comes to exercise being either moderate or rigorous?
What is the difference between aerobic and anaerobic capacity, and between muscular strength and endurance?
What is the role of warm-ups and cool-downs before and after physical activity?
What is resting heart rate and describe its relationship to aerobic fitness and the Borg rating of perceived exertion (RPE) scale?
What are the major muscles used in ‘most’ activities?
Design and implement a program of remediation for an area of weakness based on the results of health related fitness assessment.
Maintain a physical activity log for at least 2 weeks and reflect on activity levels as documented in the log.
Identify foods within each of the basic food groups and select appropriate servings and portions for your age and physical activity levels.
Identify positive and negative results of stress and appropriate ways of dealing with each.
